BUILDING PROGRAM IN NEPAL

Building program in NepalThe $50,000 U.S. grant from the American Himalayan Foundation has been matched by $75,000 Cdn donated by generous-hearted friends. Construction is well along (right).

With a new donation of $50,000 Cdn from a family who are long-time supporters (and wish to remain anonymous), we are starting the fundraising for the school building, which will cost $100,000 Cdn ($67,000 U.S.) We have to raise another $50,000 Cdn. Anyone donating $5000 or more can have a room named in honour of a person of their choice. A large plaque with this information will be installed on the wall of the main assembly hall.

Volunteers and contractorsTop right, (looking north east) the first Main building will be connected to the school building by the extension going off to the left, in which some utilities will be installed, as well as classrooms on the second floor. The school building will have double purpose rooms - for classes by day and sleeping by night, plus a room for women's training in literacy, life skills, handicrafts. Also a health clinic.

Next are the Nepali contractor, Hélène Vanier, and Karen Kaplan of the American Himalayan Foundation.
Behind them is the small cottage being built for Dr Yanta Mani Pradhan, donor of the land.
Dr Pradhan plans to spend the rest of his days there, after which the cottage will revert to Child Haven. We are delighted to have Dr Pradhan living on the premises.
