At right, a new group of children have been admitted to Kaliyampoondi Child Haven. These children are from a tribal group found only in Tamil Nadu. They never send their children to school. Laxmi Reddiar (on the left) and Manager Nathan visited the tribal leaders and convinced them that the children really should have an education, and that their tribal culture would be honored.

As a general rule, children have to be age six or younger, and if they were having one good meal a day, they are not qualified (destitute) enough to be admitted.
