"We have received a very short call from Kalaben our manager at the Gandhinagar home. The connection was not very good but it was made clear that the children and staff are all OK.

We do not know the status of the building structure, whether they have shelter, water, electricity or a stable communication connection. OUR KIDS ARE OK. That is the best news we could have hoped for.

I appologize if I repeat myself, I am adding names to our list every few hours.

As you know Bonnie leaves for India and Nepal tomorrow. She is scheduled to arrive in Ahmedabad, February 15. Many of you have asked if we need extra funds... we don't know! We are thinking that even if CHI, Gandhinagar doesn't need extra support, our friends in the surrounding area certainly will. Anyone wishing to send a contribution ear-marked for earthquake relief can send it to the regular address:

Child Haven, RR#1,
Maxville, ON
K0C 1T0)
Attn: Earthquake Fund.

Many of you also had concerns about Hyderabad. The media has not been clear every time they mention it but the quake did not affect our Hyderabad in India, but Hyderabad, Pakistan was badly hit.

Our thoughts are with many of you that have family and friends in Gujarat state. I have spoken to some of you and the disater is hitting much too close to home. If Child Haven can help in any way please let us know.

Thank you to all who have sent info. Again, your concern means a lot."

Sincerely,

Luanna Cappuccino

A friend of Dr Shah's has contacted him. She has been by the home in Gandhinagar and all seems well with the structure. News is coming in from many different people. Again all news is appreciated.

I just talked to Kalaben a couple hours ago. The connection was very good. She said that there was no problem with the building and that water and electricity and everything was fine. They definitely felt the earthquake but nothing happened to them. She said that all of the kids were very scared and didn't know what to do ... but everyone is safe and healthy and everything is fine.

It was good to hear her voice. She sounded tense, but safe.
