Kingston's Child Haven support group is one of over twenty such groups, mostly in Canada, who host an annual Child Haven International benefit. Our event was online in 2021, but we'll be LIVE again this year.
Long time friends of KUF, Bonnie and Fred Cappuccino, plus Dr. Nat Shah are the founders of eight Children's Homes in India, Bangladesh and Nepal, which serve about 1,100 formerly destitute children, women and seniors. These Homes are Canadian-funded but the managers and staff are all local.
The Homes strive to keep the children in contact with their families and diverse cultures by following Gandhi's principles of NO proselytizing and NO discrimination by gender, caste, race, religion or culture.
Saturday, June 25 at 6 pm, Kingston's volunteer cooks present a wonderful Indian buffet supper for Child Haven.
Our chef is Kuljit Sodhi, who will lead us in a Bollywood dance demonstration. The evening also features Bonnie and Fred's son, Robin telling stories with photos from his May to June 2022 tour of the homes - his first return to the Homes since February 2020. There will be beautiful fair trade Indian handicrafts available for sale and on auction.
Some of our dedicated volunteers have been - or are planning to be - three month interns, living at a Child Haven Home to learn more!
